National Exhibition of Belarus in Latvia: Belarus-Latvia cooperation in scientific and technical sphere has serious prospects.

Belarus-Latvia cooperation in scientific and technical sphere has serious prospects. This is the spirit of the publications in Belarusian and Latvian media dedicated to the National Exhibition of Belarus in Latvia that took place in November, where Belarus presented over 300 developments from the databases of scientific and technical products of the ICM R&D, National University and other high schools. The representatives of Belarusian and Latvian science and industry held over 30 negotiations on various directions of mutual interest. Belarusian State Committee for Science and Technologies together with the Belarusian Ministry of Education held the round table "Belarus-Latvia cooperation in scientific, technical and innovation spheres". During the exhibition and the round table both parties expressed satisfaction with the pace of the projects already being implemented, first of all in the hi-tech areas:

Thermodiffusion, laser hardening of spares and tools: Latvia is importing Belarus powders for thermodiffusion treatment produced in Belarus. Belarus also renders services to Latvia on applying coatings. The strength of the products in this way is increased 3-7 times. (BNTU - Technopark BNTU "Metolit")

Technical endoscopes: Belarus exports to Latvia flexible fiber-optic industrial endoscopes. Last contract fulfilled amounted to $ 150 thousand. Basic advantages are diagnosing in the hard-to-reach places of machines and units, high contrast of the received image and reliability of diagnostics. (The Belarusian-Russian University).

Automatic 24-hour infrared-television system for remote monitoring of fires and ecology: the development of the Research Institute of Applied Physical Problems of the Belarus' National University and Latvian company MV "GROUP". The system is intended for 24-hours remote (up to 15 km) monitoring of fire in various terrains, including large forests. It can be used also for monitoring contamination situation on objects and territories. The system has been used in Latvia and now undergoes tests before entering the European market. (BGU)

Magnetic fluid damper is used for eliminating free and forced vibrations in the conditions when it is impossible to stabilize on outer objects in aviation, rail and water transport, in energy sector. The development has been already implemented by the KA "ARKON" NPO Lavochkina for damping solar batteries in space units. Patented in Belarus, Russia and France.

New solutions for construction - composite carrying elements for building constructions (KNESK) (Belarusian-Russian University). It is efficient in building the storages for radio-active waste, reservoirs, towers, tunnels. The approach was used in the bridges under construction now in Minsk and Mogilev, both designed together with the Belarusian-Russian University, Moscow University of Communication Lines and RUP Mostostroi (Minsk). Patented in Belarus and Russia. Every 100 meters the method saves 30 million BRB due to optimization of reinforcement and other materials.

RPK - new type of thermal and smelting furnace - processing of low grade charge materials and producing metals and iron from low grade wastes. (GTTU - Technopark BNTU "Metolit"). Applying such furnaces reduces specific share of the energy costs by 20-25%, efficiency factor of the furnaces is 2 times higher than that of other thermal furnaces. One ton of iron produced from metal wastes costs $150, which is 3.5 times less than the iron produced in the blast furnace.

Cleaning surface and sewage waters of oil products (NII FHP BGU). The floating sorbent is cheap and can be completely utilized. The Belarus-Latvia project based on this development is now under way, however, there is room to extend this project.

During the exhibition BRU FGTU, GTTU, Technopark BNTU "Metolit" signed the protocols of intentions with the following Latvian companies: RTM, Lemis-Baltic, "RIBEL", Agora JK Manufacture of Plastik Parking, "Liepajas Metallurgs". Preliminary talks were held with Bruker Baltic, Latvijs Mobil Telecom, PROMA, SIA "SAPFIR PROPERTIES" and Wess Motors.
