More than 200 young programmers from universities of the world will take part in the annual team championship of the world on programming ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). It is executed by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The championship will take place on 3-7 of April, 2005, in Shanghai (China). This year in the final will compete seventy eight student teams. Each of them consists from three participants (the list of participants of the final of the world championship is given in source).
In the final the teams should solve eight or more complex real problems in programming during only five hours. A team having solved the most problems for the least time will be the champion, receive grants, prizes from IBM corporation and a right to be proud of the award for the highest intelligence in the world.
This year the championship is added by competition Parallel Challenge, called to acquaint programmers with technologies of parallel calculations POWER. It will be offered to the teams to create parallel application and execute it on the system Blue Gene set in Shanghai.
Within the permanent activity on support of education field the IBM corporation will cooperate close with instructors of the teams to give to universities the technologies and software, as well as to know more about how much university teachers provide conformity of the curricula to the modern requirements.
The final of the world championship ACM-ICPC of 2004 has taken place in Prague (Czech Republic) in March, 2004. Then the winner became the team of the St.-Petersburg Institute of Precise Mechanics and Optics. (The team of Belarusian State University had the third place).
