BelEXPO-2004 in Latvia. Report.

From 4 till 7 of November, 2004 in Riga there passed the Days of Belarusian economy. The National exhibition "BelarusEXPO2004" became central event of these Days.

Last one and a half year the interest to bilateral cooperation between the countries has sharply raised. This fact also has defined expediency of carrying out this exhibition.

The Republic of Belarus has presented a wide spectrum of production of mechanical engineering, oil chemistry, building complex, electronics, wood-processing, light industry, and food branch. The visitors could familiarize with researches and innovative developments as well. The common stand of organizations-participants of the section of scientific and technical developments was represented by the National Academy of Belarus, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, State Military-industrial Committee.

An important point of this event is the fact, that the sides are going to give to co-operation long-term character. This approach has found the reflection in the signed agreements.

On 5 of November, 2004, signing the Agreement on intention between Belarusian Committee for Science and Technology and the Latvian Academy of Sciences took place. This document provides development of mutually advantageous cooperation between two countries by search of partners for realization of joint projects and promotion of modern technologies and goods on the markets of Latvia, Belarus and other countries, development of innovative activity, as well as creation of a Belarusian-Latvian Center of Technology Transfer (BLCTT). The report has been signed from the Belarusian side by Mr.Vladimir Nedilko, and from the Latvian side by Mr.Juris Ekmanis.

The Belarusian department of BLCTT has been created in Minsk on the basis of the Interuniversity Center of Marketing of "Technopark "Metolit" at BNTU"  (phone: +375 17 2328342, e-mail: ). The Latvian department of BLCTT has been created in Riga on the basis of the Fund of Technological Development. It has been fixed in the corresponding contract signed by Mr.Juri Aliakseyeu and Mr.Viesturs Sosars.

BLCTT will work for support of small- and medium-sized innovative business, establishment of contacts with foreign partners, intermediary services and assistance in preparation of scientific and technical employees.

Creation of BLCTT has been maintained also by the Belarusian Innovative Fund (Mr.Anatoly Grishanovich) and the Latvian Association of Technological Parks, Centers and Business-incubators (LTICA) (Mr.Janis Stabulnieks).
