European supercomputer projects

Some of the European institutes have declared the decision to create the supercomputer fourth on capacity in the world, says the agency Reuter. To not spend too much money, they have decided to join the available four supercomputers of smaller capacity in a network. After have being connected due to special software through a high-speed network, they begin to work as one mega-computer.

The supercomputer will be entered in spring of 2005. In its creation participate institute IDRIS IDRIS at the French National Center of Scientific Research, Research Center in Juelich at the Computer Center Garhing and Max Planck’s Institute of Plasma Physics in Germany, as well as Consorzio Interuniversitario, uniting a series of Italian Universities.

Meanwhile, one of a similar supercomputer are going to enter British institutes EPCC and European Center of Intermediate Term Weather Forecasts at participation of institutes CSC  in Finland andSARA in Holland. This project will start in the second half of 2005 with the help of IBM.
