Purpose and area of application

Video Spectral Complex is intended for operative remote monitoring of forest states from the board of aircrafts. The system is based on the latest techniques of remote spectroscopy and spectrozonal polarization image acquisition and processing. It provides simultaneous image acquisition in 3 spectral zones (from 12 zones in visible and NIR spectral ranges) and operative interactive data processing with geographical registration.

Complex can be used for:

  • determination of areas with various forests stands species, the boundaries of conifers and deciduous forests;
  • state diagnostics of forest plants: degree of withering, infection with insects and diseases;
  • the control of conducting the forestry works, detection the bounds and squares of clearings and wind lumbering;
  • making the image-maps of forest fires and their consequences, forest lumbers by wind and so on.
  • Technical opportunities

    VSC-2 includes airborne and stationary (laboratory) complete unit sets. Further the airborne complete set includes external unit of the optical modules and airborne control complex (ACC). External unit of the optical modules VSC-2 consists of: high resolution spectro-polarimeter MS-09; spectrozone polarization image unit (SPIU-01); viewing TV camera; GPS system. Stationary complete unit set consists of standard equipment: IBM PC, scanner, printer, videotape recorder.

    The complex is supplied with the control software, which provides onboard unit operation, namely: control by the spectropolarimeter and spectrozone image unit (setting up and changing parameters and modes of operation), viewing the spectra and images, digitizing the images and recording the spectra and images onto the hard drive, recording the shooting parameters into the report file together with the time and geographical coordinates from GPS.

    In addition, we may supply the original software for spectra processing, including their thematic classification on the base of factor and cluster analysis, as well as for the image processing (contrasting, mathematical operations including calculation of polarization images).

    To process of registered spectropolarization images anyone of well-known specialized software, such as “ERDAS IMAGINE”, “ENVI”, “eCognition” and so, may be used.
