Purpose and area of application
The laboratory of physical and chemical methods of investigations of BSTU carry out investigation of the surface area and porosity for materials:
Directions of research:
-Determination of the surface area of catalysts, adsorbents and other materials;
-Studying of the isotherms of adsorption and desorption;
-Determination of the pore side distribution based on the adsorption or desorption isotherm;
-Investigation of the type and parameters of porosity;
-Definition of the adsorptive capacity and activity of porous stuffs;
Equipment:
High Speed Gas Sorption Analyzer NOVA 2200 (Quantachrome Corp. USA)
The NOVA 2200 will perform rapid and accurate sorption measurements of N2 (nitrogen gas), Ar (argon), CO2 (carbon dioxide), CO (carbon monooxide), O2 (oxygen) or other non-corrosive gases on solid surfaces. The theoretical basis for the operation of the NOVA is Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method is the most widely used procedure for the determination of the surface area of solid materials and involves the use of the BET equation.
