Purpose and area of application:

The deironing of underground waters in water supply systems under stringent requirements for water purification quality.

Features of the method:

The method consists in filtration through biomass layer contained iron organisms of incoming water which is previously saturated by oxygen of air. Depending on design of water supply system the pressure and gravity-type filters can be used. Their regeneration is implemented by water backwashout with rate of 16…18 L/s*m2. During activity the biomass layer is increased and its excesses can be used for other filter media. 

Advantages of the know-how:

The proposed method allows:

  • to extract from water till 98-99 % of iron;
  • to carry out the process at higher filtration rates;
  • to purify a water with value down pH;
  • to apply the filters with smaller filter material;
  • to reduce 1,5-2,0 as large the developments cost for deironing;
  • to reduce the operation costs, as fresh the filter material is not required.

Forms of cooperation:

  • development of technological diagrams and projects for deironing plants;
  • investigation and engineering development for redesign of deironing operational plants with change-over purpose of them on biological method.
